ShareBloomington is a local manifestation of the sharing Cities Global network of Shareable, which is based on the sharing of goods and services. ShareBloomington exists to connect, promote and catalyse projects that are emergent from the sharing culture and seeks to build networks of commons, gifts, and exchange that are not mediated by financial transactions. These include tools, time, food, seeds, information, etc. The vision of ShareBloomington is to reinvigorate the sense of community, shared values, and the ability to work together for a better Bloomington. In June 2015 the foundations were laid for ShareBloomington by starting the organisation process of a Share Fest about sharing culture and sharing economy in Bloomington. This was an initiative of a university professor and his student.
This CTP consist of the development of a Tool Library established in June 2015. Tool libraries, which have been around since at least the 1970s, offer communities a way to share resources that would otherwise remain unused in drawers and garages.
Since the start of ShareBloomington in June 2015, the organization has been growing with different projects, including a Tool library, Timebanking and a Seed library. The different projects need a consistent team of people to operate effectively and consistently.
This CTP consist of the formalization of Timebank in ShareBloomington in October 2015. Timebank is a formalized concept of time exchanges through an online platform by providing services, without financial transaction.
This CTP consist of the collaboration of ShareBloomington with BloomingLabs. Bloominglabs is Indiana's first hackerspace (or makerspace). The connection with BloomingLabs helped ShareBloomington with a space for the tool library and the reparation of the tools.
This CTP consist of The forming of a seed library in ShareBloomington. Seed libraries are a type of agricultural commons where gardeners and farmers can borrow and share seed varieties, to enrich their biodiversity and nutrition.
