Transition Norwich was a Transition initiative based in the UK city of Norwich. It was launched in 2008 following a stage of preparatory work.
Transition inititiaves are grassroots networks of activists who work voluntarily to address the issues of climate change, peak oil and local economic resilience. The movement started in Totnes, UK in 2006 and has since spread to various countries accross the work. Various books and guides have been published to help communities set up their own Transition initiatives and an international network also exists.
Transition initiatives aim to empower communities by supporting them to take action in a range of different areas of sustainability. A number of different projects were launched including a community supported farm scheme, a street festival and small self help groups. Transition Norwich struggled to find an organisational structure that could provide leadership and hold the different activities together. By 2013 it had fragmented with the core group no longer meeting, although some project activity continued.
