    Creation of the RMRU

    In September 1991, the formal organization of the Network of rural women's groups in Uruguay was institutionalized. The network was made up of cooperatives and women's groups already had many years of experience working for the rural women rights.

    New RMRU position on GM crops

    In 2003 a new discussion began at a network level in the RMRU. Since that moment, a great number of women leaders in the network declared their position decidedly against the Genetically Modified crops.

    Calmañana cooperative problem

    This CTP began when one of the members of the network experienced a serious problem for their production selling. In 2004, the local bromatology authorities discovered that the water used for irrigation was contaminated and was unfit for use.

    Participation in the School of Political Training of Rural Women

    The network of rural women's groups in Uruguay participated in the training school for rural women promoted by the Chilean organization ANAMURI, with participation of peasant movements from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile and Uruguay.

    Incorporation of RMRU into Vía Campesina

    In October 2008, the network of rural women's groups in Uruguay was invited to join as an active member of Vía Campesina at an international level. This fact allowed a strengthening of the network and marked a milestone in its trajectory.

    Co-ownership Resolution of the National Colonization Institute

    In 2014, the Uruguayan National Settlement Institute issued a resolution that began to implement joint ownership of marriages and de facto unions for the adjudication of parcels under lease. This resolution remedied a great gender inequality for rural women.
