This short guide is aimed at practitioners – those currently or considering engaging with social innovations. Even though the term social innovation is becoming more widespread, there remains significant confusion about what it is and what the term means. This guide aims to provide an overview of what social innovation is, who does it and why it’s important. The report presents a number of short case studies to show social innovation in action. These represent just a small selection of the many social innovations being developed by civil society organisations across Europe and elsewhere. However, the aim in presenting these is to highlight some of the dynamism, creativity and innovation that are taking place in community and voluntary sector organisations everywhere.
